Galapagos has achieved two milestones totaling $3.5 million in its strategic alliances with Janssen Pharmaceutica and GlaxoSmithKline.

Galapagos received a $2.1 million milestone payment from Janssen related to their rheumatoid arthritis (RA) alliance, under which Galapagos has earned more than $33.4 million in payments so far. Under this alliance Galapagos provides Janssen with option rights to acquire worldwide, commercial licenses to novel small molecules from its internal programs involving RA targets. For each program licensed by Janssen, Galapagos is eligible to receive fees and milestone payments, plus royalties on sales for any approved RA drug.

In the GSK infectious diseases alliance, Galapagos received a $1.4 million milestone payment. To date, Galapagos has received a total of $8.3 million from GSK. Under this collaboration, Galapagos is responsible for the discovery and development of drug candidates through to clinical Proof-of-Concept, at which point GSK has the exclusive option to license each compound for further development and commercialization.

“Galapagos continues to make progress across its strategic alliances, showing that our alliance model delivers strong growth in R&D revenues,” said Onno van de Stolpe, chief executive officer of Galapagos.
